The primary mission of the ASC is to directly promote and support students' academic success by offering a wide range of services. Our student employees play a significant role in implementing academic support by providing on-demand personalized assistance to the Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app student community.

Peer Tutor (In person & online) - Accepting Applications

Job Description

Peer Tutors provide learning support in selected coursework in which they have demonstrated high academic achievement. General duties include facilitating individual and/or group study sessions, in person or online, attendance at required tutor training sessions and meetings, and assisting other staff when requested. Develop learning resources during shifts without appointments or students present. Comfortability with multiple subjects for appointment-based tutoring. Complete CRLA level I & II training on the job.

Qualifications for Being a Peer Tutor

  • Must be an actively enrolled Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app undergraduate student
  • Must have completed at least one academic year at Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app (24+ credit hours)
  • Must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.25
  • Must have earned a B+ or higher in the course(s) intend to tutor
  • Must possess excellent time management skills and be able to juggle own academic responsibilities with work obligations of at least 10 hours per week
  • Must have exemplary communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must demonstrate commitment to helping peers learn
  • This position requires flexible hours including evening and weekend hours. Tutors are expected to work between 10 and 20 hours per week.

Please note that to qualify as a drop-in tutor, you must be able to tutor the full suite of courses (e.g., Organic Chemistry I & II, Calculus I-III). For the online tutor role, preference will be given to applicants who can tutor at least 5 courses.

FEDERAL WORK STUDY ACADEMIC ASSISTANT

Job Description

The FWS Academic Assistant is responsible for managing the front desk and helping all customers who utilize the services of the Academic Success Center (ASC). Front desk staff must possess excellent communication, customer service skills, and a passion to help others as they serve as a bridge between students, faculty and university staff who come to the center. The position reports to the Academic Services Administrator of the ASC.

As a result of this position, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate basic employability skills such as: timeliness to work, appropriate dress, interpersonal communication, and time management 
  • Receive and solicit feedback from supervisor and effectively apply feedback on the job 
  • Assess workplace and demonstrate how personal talents, skills, and knowledge fit into the employer’s goals, mission, and vision 
  • Demonstrate their professional brand (identity) 
  • Communicate transferable and functional skills to prospective employers

  • Awarded a Federal Work Study Award for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters

Academic Peer Mentor

Job Description

APMs support undergraduate students throughout their time at the University of South Florida (Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app) to provide mentoring and advocacy to reach their academic goals and overcome barriers. They conduct outreach, refer students to appropriate supports and university departments, and meet with students to offer individualized guidance. They may also be embedded in Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app’s Exploratory Curriculum course, IDS 2378: Foundations of Interdisciplinary Knowledge and Inquiry, to help first-year students acclimate to campus, contribute to a positive classroom community, and facilitate workshops. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Complete two 5-hour Peer Educator Trainings and two hours of additional onboarding (12 hours total)
  • Communicate outreach to First Time in College students to encourage positive academic progress and engagement; promote enrollment and provide support with holds and other barriers; and support students with an academic standing of Academic Probation or Deferred Probation
  • Conduct tailored one-on-one appointments focused on peers’ goals, needs, and academic progress
  • Promote student engagement by tabling at orientation events, facilitating workshops/presentations, and other outreach and projects as assigned
  • Meet with supervisor on a weekly basis
  • If assigned to IDS 2378 section—Attend IDS 2378 and serve as a model student to peers
  • Hold a 10-12 hour/week appointment

Qualifications for Being an Academic Peer Mentor

  • Must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • Must be an actively enrolled Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app undergraduate student who has completed at least one semester
  • Must possess excellent time management skills with the ability to balance own academic responsibilities with work obligations
  • Must have exemplary communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must demonstrate commitment to helping peers learn and thrive on campus
  • Experience completing IDS 2378: Foundations of Interdisciplinary Knowledge and Inquiry is preferred but not required

PEER ASSISTED STUDY SESSION (pass) leaders

Job Desciption

Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) consist of regularly scheduled, voluntary, out-of class group study sessions driven by students’ needs. PASS is implemented in historically challenging courses and is available to all students. Study sessions are informal in which students review notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and prepare for examinations. PASS is led by PASS Leaders who engage students in collaborative group work helping to empower them to effectively study and maximize their academic potential.

Qualifications for Being a PASS Leader

  • Must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.25
  • Must have earned a B+ or higher in the course for which you want to be a PASS leader
  • Must be an actively enrolled Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app undergraduate student
  • Must possess excellent time management skills and be able to balance own academic responsibilities with work obligations of at least 11 to 13 hours per week
  • Must have exemplary communication and interpersonal skills  
  • Must demonstrate commitment to helping your peers learn
  • Preference is given to those with a good recommendation from the instructor who taught the PASS course of interest
