Accreditation
In the United States, most registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program as a prerequisite for licensure. The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), which is the sole agency authorized to accredit professional degree programs in architecture offered by institutions with U.S. regional accreditation, recognizes three types of degrees: the Bachelor of Architecture, the Master of Architecture, and the Doctor of Architecture. A program may be granted an eight-year term, an eight-year term with conditions, or a three-year term of initial accreditation, depending on the extent of its conformance with established education standards.
Doctor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degree programs may require a non-accredited undergraduate degree in architecture for admission. However, the non-accredited degree is not, by itself, recognized as an accredited degree.
Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app, College of Design, Art & Performance, School of Architecture and Community Design offers the following NAAB-accredited degree program:
Master of Architecture:
Three tracks are offered for earning the Master of Architecture degree:
- Track 1: 168 credit hours (6 years): for students without a bachelor’s degree - 60 undergraduate credit hours + 108 graduate credit hours
- Track 2: 108 credit hours (4 years): for students with an architecture associate’s degree or a non-architecture bachelor’s degree – 108 graduate credit hours
- Track 3: 54 semester credit hours (2 years): for students with a non-accredited architecture degree from elsewhere - 54 graduate credit hours
The next NAAB accreditation visit for the Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app SACD is during the fall 2025 semester.

NCARB Information
The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) is a nonprofit organization made up of the architectural licensing boards of 55 U.S. states and territories. While each jurisdiction is responsible for regulating the practice of architecture within its borders, NCARB develops and administers national programs for candidates pursuing architectural licensure and helps architects expand their professional reach through the NCARB Certificate.
NCARB, in collaboration with licensing boards, facilitates the licensure and credentialing of architects to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
