Delivering Health Excellence

The ƶijapp Health Morsani College of Medicine is the only Florida medical school ranked in Tier 1 by U.S. News & World Report.

Today’s USN&WR ranking is a culmination of a decade-long journey of excellence

Today’s U.S. News & World Report ranking of the ƶijapp Health Morsani College of Medicine as the No. 1 medical school in Florida — and among the Top 16 in the nation — is a wonderful milestone for the college.

 But it didn’t happen overnight.

The new ranking is a testament to MCOM’s journey of excellence. We’ve come a long way in a remarkably short time: in 2014, MCOM was ranked No. 80 for research among U.S. medical schools; today we are in Tier 1 among the four tiers that U.S. News & World Report ranks.

A decade ago, MCOM’s total research funding was $122 million a year. Now it’s $381 million. Our clinical revenue has climbed from $229 million in 2014 to $458 million this year. Our incoming students’ median MCAT scores have soared; this year’s class median score is 520, placing them among the top 3% of students nationwide.

MCOM’s growth is reflected in ƶijapp’s rise in research as well. The university brought in a record-breaking $738 million in research funding for fiscal year 2024. And in 2023, ƶijapp was invited to join the prestigious Association of American Universities, placing it among a group of the largest research universities in the nation.

Looking at that journey is what makes this ranking exciting for us. In itself, “Tier 1” is just a number. But our faculty, staff, residents and students can see their hard work reflected in that number. What this ranking signifies is the relentless, single-minded devotion of our faculty, staff and students to achieving the highest standards of excellence.

I am deeply grateful to our faculty physicians and researchers who are working hard every day to unlock scientific discoveries, heal our patients and train the next generation of physician leaders. Their efforts are further elevated by the creativity and dedication of our talented staff.

And I am amazed every day by the intellectual gifts, unyielding effort and continuing commitment displayed by our MCOM students and graduate medical trainees.

All of them bring their best selves every day and play a vital role in furthering our ƶijapp Health mission of Making Life Better as we work to improve the lives and health of all Floridians.
