BIOGRAPHY:
Matthew P. Dearing, PhD is a Professor of Irregular Warfare at the College of International Security Affairs at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. He has over a decade of experience teaching graduate courses on national security and foreign policy issues, including irregular warfare strategy, contemporary conflict in Africa, and international security in South Asia. Dearing has held several leadership positions at the college, including Dean of Faculty, Associate Dean of Academics, and Director of the South and Central Asia Program. He currently serves as the Academic Lead for the annual NDU Alumni Continuing Education Security Seminar.

Before his academic career, Dr. Dearing served as an irregular warfare advisor in Afghanistan, a research associate at the Naval Postgraduate School, and as a rifleman in the U.S. Marine Corps. He earned his Doctoral and Master’s degrees from the Naval Postgraduate School’s Department of National Security Affairs and a Bachelor’s degree in International Political Economy from the University of California, Berkeley.
