The Lifelong Learners of Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app student organization was recognized as the Student Organization Program of the Year during Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app’s 2024 Celebration of Leadership Awards. This distinction honors a student organization that positively contributes to the growth of Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app's community through creative approaches to reach a diverse student body.
Faculty advisor from the School of Aging Studies, Amy Corbin, LCSW, accepted this award alongside students Kevin Lipton, president of the organization, and Chen-Yi Huang, who serves as vice president.
As Lipton began auditing classes and exploring different student organizations, he shared with Corbin that it was difficult to find a group with a sense of community representative of his experience. Lifelong Learners of Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app was born to better connect and represent Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app's diverse student body. The group fosters intergenerational relationships through multiple free events and mentorship opportunities.
"It is often through a series of small steps that we can cultivate sustainable change," said Corbin.
Lifelong Learners of Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app is helping to pave the way for Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app's Age-Friendly University initiative.
